Manchester City lost in a dramatic duel against Tottenham Hotspur. Pep Guardiola do not hesitate to praise the appearance of the opponent.
Manchester City lost 2-3 when they hosted Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (20/2/2022) early in the morning WIT in continued Premier League. The hosts dominated possession, but continued to be conceded by the visitors.
Dejan Kulusevski had put Tottenham in a leading position in the fourth minute, which Ilkay Guendogan replied in the 33rd minute. Harry Kane again brought Spurs the lead in the 59th minute.
Riyad Mahrez’s penalty in the 91st minute looked set to make the game end in a 2-2 draw. But it turned out that a quick Tottenham attack managed to tear the Man City goal, through Kane’s header utilizing Kulusevski’s bait.
Overall, the match was interesting and exciting, with two different approaches from each team. Man City had a lot of possession, had 21 shots with four on target and one chance to hit the post.
Tottenham are more defensive, but also a lot of threat. They only had six attempts, but five of them were on goal, and it was three goals!
“After we fell behind, they defended very deep and very tight, which was incredible. They didn’t lose the ball easily with Harry Kane and could hit the ball with Son and Kulusevski too,” said the Man City manager. Pep Guardiola to BBC.
“I think we played well, really. We created a lot of chances. I can’t say there was anything wrong with the team because we always had chances. But it was a tough game.”
“They (Man City players) played as I expected. They are good at building attacks and creating a lot of gaps to take advantage of on the counter-attack, but in general we played well and played a good game,” he concluded.
This result has the potential to make Man City increasingly beaten by Liverpool in the title competition. The Citizens still top of the standings with 63 points from 26 games, six points ahead of Liverpool in second place with one game in hand.
