Man Charged with Shooting, Stuffing Victim in Car, and Setting it on Fire in Rockland County

NEW YORK — A New York man faces charges after shooting another man to death in his suburban home and then stuffing the victim into his car and setting it on fire just off the Palisades Parkway, according to the district attorney.

The suspect, Robert Rodriguez, 36, was at his home in the Rockland County town of Haverstraw when he allegedly shot and killed Ronald Mann during the night of February 15, 2021. After the shooting, Rodriguez drove Mann’s car. , with the dead victim inside, to Exit 16 of the busy parkway in the town of Stony Point, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh said.

He then parked the car in a snowbank on the side of the road in the early morning hours of Feb. 16, doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire, with Mann’s body still inside, according to Walsh. Then Rodríguez left on foot.

After an extensive investigation by the New York State Police, Rodriguez was arrested on February 9, 2024, and arraigned on Tuesday on charges including murder, arson, tampering with evidence, concealment of a human corpse, and weapons possession.

Information from Rodriguez’s attorney was not immediately clear.
