Police on Monday charged a man with false testimony after a man was found dead in his home on Veme outside Hønefoss on Friday afternoon.

Published:

This is confirmed by police lawyer Ann Iren Svane Mathiassen in the South-East police district to VG.

– A man who has been questioned as a witness in the case is accused of having given an incorrect explanation to the police, Mathiassen says.

The person in question has now been arrested and will be questioned again on Monday.

– The person in question has a connection to the deceased. That was the reason why he was called in for questioning, says Mathiassen.

It is currently not relevant for the police to extend the charge or produce the man for custody.

It was Ringerikes Blad who first mentioned the accusation.

Died of injuries

It was Friday last week that the man in his 70s stayed found dead by family members. One of the main hypotheses the police work from is that the man may have been killed

– There were injuries to the deceased which we know is the cause of death and the question is whether they were inflicted by someone else or whether they were self-inflicted. It can also be an accident, says the police attorney.

Police said earlier Monday that they had launched an investigation after a man in his late 70s was found dead in his home on Veme outside Hønefoss on Friday 7 May.

– Finds at the site meant that the police launched an investigation. The purpose is to clarify what has happened and whether something criminal has happened. We are conducting both tactical and technical investigations, said police station chief Kjell Magne Tvenge at Hønefoss police station in a press release earlier Monday.

Calling for video recording

In connection with the case, the police are calling for a video, dash cam or similar from national road 7 from Heradsbygda to Sokna, for the period Thursday 6 May at 5 pm to Friday 7 May at 3 pm.
