Man Charged with Murder and Attempted Murder After Sending Vehicle into Group Leaving Nightclub in Toulon

A man was charged with murder and later attempted murder he sent his vehicle to a group leaving a nightclub in Toulon, killing one person and injuring two others, prosecutors said Friday.

“The accused was placed in pre-trial detention, according to the prosecutor’s orders,” said the prosecutor, Samuel Finielz.

The 20-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody shortly after the events that took place on the night of May 1 to 2. He fled after the events, but was quickly arrested in front of his home, located in the town of Six-Fours-les-Plages, thanks to a witness on the scene who noticed vehicle license plate.

“Change in a nightclub”

His actions came after “a change in a night club near Toulon station that continued on the public road”, the prosecutor said then. Inside the “Boy’s Paradise” club, an argument about a young woman reportedly took place between the driver and the small group in which he drove his vehicle.

The person first ran towards a group of people, who almost went out on the road, a source close to the investigation told us. The driver, who had stopped about a hundred meters away, then went back and hit the group on purpose, trapping two people under the car.

One of the people who were knocked down has since died, the second was injured, “in a serious condition” and the third was slightly injured, again according to the prosecutor.
