According to the CCTV video uploaded by the barbecue restaurant involved on its social networking site, the man acted very quickly every time. After picking up the banknotes, he immediately rolled them up and used the bottle of drink in his hand to cover them up. It took less than 50 seconds from the time he entered the store to the time he completed four money thefts and left, and the footage also clearly captured the appearance of the man involved.
The store admitted that it was fully responsible for this incident. It said that it had been operating for 10 years because it was convinced that the Shau Kei Wan neighborhood was “more innocent than outside the area” and that there were no thieves in the area. Therefore, the incident was caused by negligence. From now on, the store owner will take care of his property carefully. The store also stated that the purpose of uploading the video was to remind other stores to be careful about the person in the video, and also thanked the neighbors for sharing the post.
The police later responded to “am730” inquiries and stated that at 4:03 pm that day, they received a report from the 38-year-old male person in charge of the restaurant, surnamed Kwong. He said that when he left the cashier counter and turned back, he discovered that about 6,000 yuan in cash was missing. After the police arrived at the scene to investigate, they classified the case as “theft” and handed it over to the Eastern District Police Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. They are looking for a man aged between 20 and 30 years old.
