Man Caught Speeding at 86 km/h in 60 Zone: License Confiscated and Fined

The police in Finnmark state on Twitter that the vehicle was measured to have driven at 86 kilometers per hour in a signposted 60 zone. This led to the confiscation of the driver’s license, and the man was also reported for the offence.

If the speeding offense is up to 25 kilometers per hour in a 60-zone (or lower), the penalty is a simplified fine of NOK 12,100.

As the speedometer showed 26 kilometers over the legal speed limit, the man in his 50s became a pedestrian on the spot and was reported by the police.

Penalty rates as of 1 February 2023

– when the speed limit on the spot is 60 km/h or lower, and the speed limit is
up to and including 5 km/h kr 1 100,–
up to and including 10 km/h kr 3 000,–
up to and including 15 km/h kr 5 400,–
up to and including 20 km/h kr 7 800,–
up to and including 25 km/h kr 12 100,–
– when the speed limit on the spot is 70 km/h or higher, and the speed limit is
up to and including 5 km/h kr 1 100,–
up to and including 10 km/h kr 3 000,–
up to and including 15 km/h kr 4 800,–
up to and including 20 km/h kr 6 700,–
up to and including 25 km/h kr 9 100,–
up to and including 30 km/h kr 12 100,–
up to and including 35 km/h kr 14 500,–
– when the speed limit on the motorway is 90 km/h or higher, and the speed limit is
36 km/h up to and including 40 km/h kr 15 100,–

The price for running a red light, with too short a distance to the driver in front or breaching the right-of-way rules costs NOK 9,700.

And if you break the sign rules and drive against a no-entry sign, turn ban, drive against the direction of travel or the like, the fine is NOK 7,800.
