The incident happened at the airport in Tiruchirapalli, India, on July 29, the local customs service writes on Twitter.
A man from Chennai in India was stopped by customs officers who were suspicious of his suitcases. They must have moved.
It turned out that he had brought 47 pythons and two lizards from Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, according to the authorities.
The animals were packed in boxes with ventilation holes.
India Today have video of the particular cargo. It shows that customs officials pick up both smaller snakes and a snake well over a meter from tightly packed boxes.
The snakes should not have caused any problems on the flight itself.
According to the newspaper Malay Mail it is a frequent problem that smugglers try to bring exotic reptiles from Southeast Asia to India.
