Man bleeds to death in stairwell: no foul play, but illness

reported police spokesman Markus Dittrich when asked by APA. The 43-year-old was a Greek citizen and was born in Georgia. It was discovered that the man was not registered at the house on Taborstrasse where he bled to death.

According to Dittrich, there were currently no further findings that are relevant to the public. A woman called the police at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday because the man had behaved unusually in the stairwell of the apartment building. The alerted officers noticed the heavily bleeding wound and provided first aid. The rescue team was also alerted, but the man died from his injury. It was a single stab wound to the lower body; the police did not disclose the exact location.

The investigators assumed foul play and the Vienna State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation into the exact circumstances of the death and the fugitive perpetrator. The object used to inflict the injury on the victim has not yet been found.

The wound on the lower body was caused by a vascular disease that caused the skin to burst and led to massive blood loss, explained police spokesman Markus Dittrich. This initially looked like a knife stab.

Police investigated the area around the dead man

It was said on Saturday that the situation points to third-party negligence. However, it had not been entirely ruled out that the man had inflicted the wound on himself. The autopsy now revealed the actual cause of death. The 43-year-old suffered from a pathological arterial change, and foul play is ruled out.
