What seemed like a pleasant outing for a mother and son turned into a nightmare when a man attacked the 4-year-old boy in Times Square for no reason.

Authorities say that, without what or for what, the deranged man hit the boy in the head, knocking him down. Immediately, the boy’s mother and another woman followed the suspect and they beat him. In the “counterattack” the subject fell to the floor, and they kept him there until the police arrived.

As reported by the New York Post, the suspect in question is called Babacar Mbaye, he is 34 years old and has a history of at least 16 previous arrests, some of which have been for assaulting people on the street, for no reason.

A security video from Times Square shows the boy walking with his mother in that area, when suddenly the subject hit him in the head, leaving him lying on the ground.

His mother and another woman immediately run after him to the TKTS stands. One of them struggles with the suspect inches from traffic on Seventh Avenue, while the other throws an object that appears to be a bottle or a rolled-up umbrella at him, hitting him in the head.

That same outlet reported that when officers showed up to arrest Mbaye, he allegedly kicked one of them while trying to take him away in a police car.

The unusual event happened Thursday around 3 pm at 46th Street and 7th Avenue in the Crossroads of the World.

Police records show that Mbye has a criminal record dating back to 2009. His multiple arrests include assault, criminal possession of a weapon, DWI and threatening others.

the suspect has 16 prior misdemeanor convictionsand three open misdemeanors for “assaulting strangers” dating back to the summer, including two in the last month, one in which he allegedly “shoved a stranger and punched him twice in the shoulder” and the other in which he “hit a stranger in the head.”

At the time of assaulting the 4-year-old boy in Times Square, Mbye was on supervised release in connection with other recent random attacks, charged with felony assault, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, according to police.
