The man, of Polish nationality and whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested at 8 pm on Friday, at the top of the 209-meter building. He introduced police officers as a tourist and started the climb in the late afternoon, without a safety device.
Police from the intervention and protection group rappelled down when the climber was halfway there.
The Maine-Montparnasse Tower, built between 1969 and 1973, was until 2011 the tallest building in France, having been overtaken by the First Tower, 231 meters high. It remains the tallest building in Paris outside the La Défense area, the most recently built in the French capital and where several companies are located.
