A 26-year-old man has been arrested in the search for a missing 21-year-old woman in Northern Ireland. The arrest was made in Antrim on Tuesday evening after Chloe Mitchell was reported missing earlier in the day.
Mitchell’s mother has made a public appeal for help in locating her daughter, who was last seen on Monday in the Antrim area. Police have said they are becoming increasingly concerned for Mitchell’s welfare and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The man in custody is being questioned by police in connection with Mitchell’s disappearance. Officers are conducting an extensive search of the Antrim area, including the use of helicopters and drones.
In a statement, police urged anyone who has seen or heard from Mitchell in recent days to come forward. “We are growing increasingly concerned for Chloe’s welfare and we need to locate her as soon as possible,” said Detective Chief Inspector Peter McKenna.
The investigation has been ongoing since Mitchell was reported missing on Tuesday morning. Police officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined.
Mitchell is described as being 5ft 6in tall, with long brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black and white striped top, black jeans, and black boots.
Her mother, Laura O’Neill, has said that Mitchell was due to start university in September and was excited about her studies. “She’s never done anything like this before, she’s not the type to just go off and not contact anyone,” O’Neill said.
She has appealed to anyone with information to contact the police. “We’re all really worried about her and just want her to come home safe and well,” she said.
The disappearance of Chloe Mitchell has prompted an outpouring of concern from the local community, with many people taking to social media to express their support for the family.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
