Man arrested in Charlottenburg for dangerous driving and escaping police

Nr. 0482
A man was arrested in Charlottenburg yesterday afternoon. A motorway police civilian patrol stopped the driver of a car on Alt-Moabit Street in Mitte around 1:30 p.m. to check him for traffic regulations. When an officer got out of the emergency vehicle and went to the Ford that was now stopped, the 39-year-old man accelerated and turned right onto Stromstrasse when the light turned red. A pedestrian who was crossing the road at that moment had to jump to the side to avoid colliding with the car. The 38-year-old was injured in one hand and one leg, but refused medical treatment. The 39-year-old continued his escape via Essener Straße. He then returned to Alt-Moabit Street via Elberfelder Straße and Levetzowstraße and then headed towards Kaiserin-Augusta-Allee. There were several strong braking, evasive and turning maneuvers as well as red light runs along the entire route. Finally, the fugitive drove across Luisenplatz onto Spandauer Damm and turned right onto Sophie-Charlotten-Straße. There he sped onto private property, where he collided with a fence. When the man continued to flee on foot, he was arrested by emergency services. The police discovered that the speeder did not have a valid driver’s license and had two outstanding arrest warrants. In addition, a preliminary drug test was carried out. The police confiscated the car and took the 39-year-old to police custody for identification purposes and a blood test. After the police measures were completed, he was transferred to a specialist commissioner at the State Criminal Police Office. Further investigations into the prohibited motor vehicle racing, the suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating substances, driving without a license and the traffic accident were carried out by a specialist commissioner for traffic offenses from Police Directorate 2 (West).
