Washington, Aug 23 (EUROPA PRESS) – Law enforcement in Cochise County, Arizona, announced Thursday that they had arrested a 66-year-old man for allegedly making death threats against former President Donald Trump.
“This individual (Ronald Syvrud) has been taken into custody without incident in Cochise County. We appreciate the information received and the incredible collaborative efforts with all of our law enforcement partners,” reads a statement posted on Facebook.
He had previously requested information on the suspect for “death threats against a presidential candidate,” although he also had outstanding arrest warrants for hit and run and felony failure to register as a sex offender.
Trump was in Cochise County on Thursday to give a speech at the US-Mexico border. The former president’s team was informed about the search for this man before he arrived at the border, according to sources consulted by the television network CNN.
Asked about the incident, Trump said he was not aware that authorities were investigating him, although he was “not that surprised.” “I’ve heard it’s dangerous, but I also have a job to do. (…) They probably want to keep it from me,” he said.
The Secret Service began beefing up Trump’s security detail and planned to surround the former president with bulletproof glass at campaign events after an assassination attempt on the billionaire at his rally last month in Butler, Pennsylvania.
