This week, Nicolás Sternaman, a 26-year-old young man, accused of trying to kidnap a small child of Cuban origin in a Miami Beach pharmacy, appeared in court.
According to local media America TeVéthe incident occurred on February 8, when the minor, who recently arrived in the US with his parents, was inside a CVS pharmacy.
Security recordings captured the exact moment in which Sternaman approached the minor and tried to pick him up, all while his parents did everything possible to stop the young man.
During the struggle, the minor fell to the ground, causing bruises. After that, the suspect escaped from the pharmacy, located at the intersection of Collins Avenue and 74th Street, but was chased by the child’s father and several witnesses.
The authorities were alerted and the young man ended up arrested that same day, being accused of attempted kidnapping of a child under 13 years of age.
After appearing in court, the judge in charge of the case decided to accept the request made by the prosecutor and left Sternaman detained without the right to bail. Likewise, she issued a restraining order.
The man has a criminal history, however, these are charges such as petty theft, for which he was released on a $150 bond.
Now, Miami Beach authorities have requested the community’s help, asking for additional information about the detainee. This information can be submitted anonymously to the Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers line at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
The local media managed to interview the family of the minor involved, pointing out that the event left him traumatized due to the speed with which it occurred. Likewise, he pointed out that the experience was a bitter pill to swallow for his parents, who had only been in the United States for 15 days.
“The child is quite affected, he has bruises, he is sore and feels very bad. He and his parents have only been in the United States for 15 days, they did not expect that, they were simply leaving the pharmacy, walking calmly and suddenly that guy covered the child’s mouth and tried to kidnap him in front of his parents, they are very scared ”, declared Betsy Rodríguez, the boy’s aunt.
