Threats
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man who had threatened Jewish people in Antwerp online. The suspect had stated that he wanted to carry out an acid attack.
In January, a woman reported threats via social media to the Antwerp police. “It started with a comment under an online article about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but then the profile in question continued to harass the woman with private messages, published her details online and made very concrete threats on her voicemail,” says police spokesperson Willem Migom .
It didn’t stop there. “After some time, the threats were no longer directed at the woman personally, but the man targeted the entire community and declared that he would kill a Jewish victim with an acid attack.”
The police started an investigation and were able to identify the suspect. The 28-year-old man turned out to be known for various facts. The police were able to locate and arrest him on Koningin Astridplein, near Central Station. He has now been brought before the investigating judge, who decided to arrest him.
