Man Arrested for Simulating Theft of Mobile Phone and Attempting Fraud

Agents of the Granada National Police have detected a simulation of a theft of a mobile phone reported by its owner, a 26-year-old male of Spanish nationality with no police record, who stated that it was stolen after giving him a push. In addition, the complainant informed the insurance company so that they could pay or replace it.

However, the agents verified that the reported events had not happened and arrested the man as the alleged perpetrator of a simulation of a crime and an attempted fraud, as reported in a statement.

The man filed a complaint for the theft of his mobile phone, valued at 1,400 euros, which occurred, as he stated, at mid-morning in a market located in the North district of Granada. At that moment, a person bumped into him and took advantage of this circumstance to remove the telephone terminal from inside the back pocket of his pants.

Agents from the Northern District Police Station began the investigation to clarify what happened, recover the mobile phone and identify the perpetrator of the abduction. However, the result of the steps taken revolved around the complainant, since, according to the information obtained, he himself would have continued to use it after the date of the abduction.

The investigators verified how, indeed, the owner of the telephone had communicated the accident to the telephone company in which he had it insured. From where they could not compensate him in any way, since the insurance did not contemplate the theft of the terminal.

The owner of the telephone was summoned to appear at the premises of said police station where he was informed of the investigations carried out, as well as his alleged responsibility in the simulation and attempted fraud, investigated. Subsequently, he was released, being informed of the obligation to appear before the judicial authority, to whom he was informed of the result of the investigation carried out.

From the Provincial Police Station they remind that these behaviors represent a distraction from the functions of prevention and prosecution of crime that the National Police has entrusted, in addition to harming society and is detrimental to the true victims of criminal acts.
