A man who tried to set fire to the Binnenhof in The Hague has been arrested by the police. He also tried to hurt himself, police said.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest. The man is in custody at the police station. Police say the man is known to them for showing confused behaviour. Nothing further is known about his motive. The man will be questioned tomorrow, police said.
The man wanted to set fire to several doors, according to images. Traces of fire can be seen on the door of the Council of State and the Ridderzaal, among others. Bottles of burning liquid were found in several places.
