NEW YORK — Police arrested the man who allegedly punched a woman in the face in an anti-Semitic attack inside a busy downtown New York City subway station.
Christopher D’Aguiar was accused of carrying out the violent and seemingly random attack around 11:30 p.m. on October 14 at the station Grand Central-42nd Street, the police said. Her 29-year-old victim was in the aisle of the 7 train when a man accidentally punched her in the face.
When she asked the attacker why he hit her in the face, D’Aguiar simply said it was because “you’re Jewish.” He then fled the station, while the victim suffered minor injuries.
D’Aguiar, 28, was charged with assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment, assault and harassment, according to police. Information from a lawyer for D’Aguiar, who lives in Manhattan, was not immediately clear.
