Man arrested and charged with murder after woman’s remains found in burnt-out car

On Sunday morning, the police found the remains of a person in a burnt-out car in Øygarden west of Bergen.

Soon after, they arrested a man and charged him with murder. The man in his 30s and the deceased have two children together.

On Monday morning, crime scene technicians were in place at the deceased woman’s residence.

– The family is in great grief over a senseless murder, and they need peace to process the grief, writes Cecilie Wallevik, the legal aid to the deceased’s family in a text message to NRK.

Has confessed to the murder

The accused man was questioned by the police on Sunday evening. The man’s defender, Jørgen Riple, says he has confessed to the murder.

– He answered all the questions that the police had. He has said when and where it happened, says Riple.

The man is said to have also told what happened before the murder, but Riple does not want to go into details from the man’s explanation.

On Monday afternoon, the court decided that the accused man will be remanded in custody for four weeks, with a ban on letters and visits, and isolation for the first two weeks.

The police believe there is a risk of evidence being tampered with in the case and were supported by the Hordaland District Court for imprisonment.

Tried to blow up the ex-boyfriend’s bed

The accused man has previously been convicted of harassing another ex-girlfriend.

He is said to have lived together with his ex-boyfriend in a collective in Bergen. According to the judgment from 2010, the relationship was gradually ended, which the man is not supposed to have accepted.

Gradually, the ex-boyfriend found a new man, which the man disliked. Then, among other things, he must have informed her that she was not allowed to meet new boys.

The defendant is also said to have said that he knew where she was at any time, and that he would send people to her home. The victim must have perceived this as threatening and unpleasant.

According to the verdict, she must have explained that the defendant at one point threatened to blow up her bed and kill her.

The court believed the woman’s explanation, and the man was sentenced to pay a fine of NOK 9,000.

– You know it’s taking a toll on the family

Riple says the man is very sorry for what he has done.

– He knows it is hard on the deceased’s family and his own. The consequences have dawned on him and he is terribly sorry, he says.

The police will carry out further questioning of the man on Monday.

– My client has given a confession without delay, so it is up to the police how much more investigation needs to be carried out, says Riple.

Autopsy woman on Monday

The woman who was found dead will undergo an autopsy today, the West Police District reports Monday morning.

The police have not yet released a cause of death.

According to the police, the two children of the accused and the deceased will be questioned at the Children’s Center in Bergen on Monday.

Had a burglary alarm

The man has previously been convicted of threatening another woman. The now-deceased woman who was killed had a violence alarm because of the accused man.

– I don’t know if the security alarm was triggered in connection with the murder, says Riple.

The police carried out investigations at the place where the woman was found on Sunday. On Monday, it is expected that they will carry out more investigations in the investigation.

– The police will speak to witnesses and others who can give us information about the murder and the course of events. We will also look for surveillance footage from the surrounding area, said police attorney Eli Valheim.

The woman was found in a car at an industrial area near Blomøy in the north of Øygarden.
