NEW YORK – A 36-year-old Manhattan man was arrested on charges of attempted murder and assault in the shooting of a Danish tourist who was walking the streets of the Upper West Side over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday. .
Hayles Narada is also accused of reckless danger and criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting that injured the tourist as he returned to his hostel on Amsterdam Avenue after leaving a party early Sunday.
Police sources said the bullets flew after Narada demanded a dollar from the tourist. The tourist said he had no money and kept walking. Then he was shot in the back, the sources said.
The tourist was taken to the hospital and was expected to be fine.
It was not immediately clear whether Narada had obtained a lawyer.
