In the US, the corona virus made two special victims last week: Johnny Lee Peoples and his wife Cathy – with barely four minutes in between – died together. “My parents were together 50 years, of which 48 years married, and they died hand in hand together.”

The couple had contracted the virus almost simultaneously and had been suffering from its effects for a month. The two were placed together in a room in the North Carolina hospital’s intensive care unit, ready for parting. “They took each other’s hands,” said son Shane Peoples. “They died four minutes apart, as they passed hand in hand the fifty years they were together.”
The couple, who have two sons, a daughter and already nine grandchildren, had followed security measures well, according to Shane. “Yet they died. That’s why I say keep your family close to you. Experience every moment as if it were the last, because it just might be. ”
