Man accused of lawyer’s murder in the Dominican Republic detained for three months

Santo Domingo, February 8.- The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santiago imposed preventive detention for a period of three months against the man who is accused of the murder of lawyer Santiago Reyes Mendoza (alias Chaguito), reported this Thursday the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

The accused is Edward Nicolás Cabrera Toribio, who fired his firearm at Reyes Mendoza while the victim was driving his vehicle along the Los Guineos section of the La Ciénaga highway, after stealthily pursuing him aboard a motorcycle, according to a press release.

The incident occurred on the night of January 23, when, according to the instance of coercive measure, the accused was driving a motorcycle and carrying on his back a delivery backpack with logos of a company that offers this service, as well as the clothing that identifies it.

Dressed in this way, he traced the victim’s route until he intercepted him on the La Ciénaga highway in the Los Guineos stretch of road, where he wounded him with several shots that caused his death.

Cabrera Toribio is charged with the crime of murder and violation of several articles of the Law for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.

The defendant, who will serve preventive detention at the La Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Moca, Espaillat province, associated with other people with whom he planned the murder of the legal professional.

The Prosecutor’s Office expands the investigation of the case, in order to gather all the elements of evidence that will support the accusation against the defendant, as well as to identify those who associated to commit the crime.EFE
