Man Accused of Double Murder in McDonald’s Faces 30 Years in Prison

Nov 30, 2023 at 10:41 AM Update: 28 minutes ago

The Public Prosecution Service is demanding thirty years in prison against Veysel Ü., who shot dead two people in a McDonald’s restaurant in Zwolle last year. Ü previously confessed that he carried out the double murder.

Brothers Ali and Hüseyin Torunlar were shot dead in the McDonald’s restaurant at the end of March 2022. The 34-year-old Ü. had met with the brothers in the restaurant to discuss a conflict surrounding an investment of hundreds of thousands in Turkish real estate.

During the appointment, Ali and Hüseyin allegedly demanded 50,000 euros from Ü. He didn’t have that money, which would have caused a fight. The perpetrator fired eleven bullets at his victims from close range. One got five and the other got six bullets in his body. Both men died on the spot.

After the shooting, panic broke out among the other attendees. The restaurant was busy at that time. YOU. fled by car. A few hours later, he presented himself at a police station and confessed to being the shooter.

Suspect remains silent during trial

YOU. invoked his right to remain silent in the court in Zwolle on Tuesday. According to his lawyer Esther Blok, Ü does not want to respond because he is not doing well. “He is currently on heavy medication and therefore does not want to speak.”

Ü previously stated. that he was threatened during the appointment with Ali (57) and Hüseyin (62) and acted on an “emotional impulse”. But app contact between them shows that no threatening messages were sent. Although Ü. claimed to have been put under pressure, he does not want to say anything about it now.
