Man accidentally shoots himself while cleaning his gun

A man was injured on Wednesday afternoon when he was cleaning his weapon at home on Cornelis Oomestraat in Raamsdonk. The man accidentally set off the weapon and was hit in the abdomen.

The victim is believed to have called the police himself. Alerted officers kicked in the front door of his home. They did that without bulletproof vests, according to a bystander. This may indicate that they were aware in advance how the shooting incident went. The man is probably a member of a shooting club.

The victim was on the first floor. He received first aid from ambulance personnel and was then transferred to the hospital in Breda. The police report that the man has a license for his weapon and an investigation has started.
