The police arrested the man on Thursday evening in a house in Alphen aan den Rijn. The bomb threat had been made by telephone shortly before, just after 5 p.m.
The Binnenhof, the Plein and surrounding streets were closed off. Ultimately, no explosives were found. The Binnenhof was released around 6 p.m.
Reporters who were outside the Stadhouderskamer waiting for the new scouts were sent away from the Binnenhof. The Square was also swept clean by police officers and the military police.
Shoppers in the Lange Poten, next to the House of Representatives, also had to leave. Some shopkeepers were no longer allowed to leave their shops and were locked inside. Here and there groups of people stood around the Square. They were kept at a distance with red and white police ribbons and vans from the military police and the police.
