Man (37) missing in Femundsmarka – the police have launched a search operation

The case is being updated.

– The man was on a trip from Sweden and towards Femunden with a friend. He was formally reported missing by his family on Sunday, says operations manager Per Solberg at the Innlandet police district on Sunday night.

Think he has run out of power on the phone

The two men from Oslo were on a multi-day trip together, but parted ways on Friday night. After that, the friend did not get in touch with the missing man on the phone. Police believe the man may have gone astray.

– He will have tents, hiking equipment and food. We are not sure if he has a map and compass. He should be in good physical shape, but there is little mobile coverage in the area. We take into account that he may be out of power, says Solberg.

The police in the Inland have launched a search operation and have assistance from rescue helicopters, Norwegian rescue dogs, Red Cross crews and Norwegian People’s Aid.

– We have assistance from the lifeboat on Femunden and a police dog is going in there, says the operations manager.

Just by the Swedish border

The search operation takes place by the lake Øvre Roasten. It is in the border area between Trøndelag and the Inland, about seven kilometers from the Swedish border.

– If someone should have been in the area and observed someone who may have got lost or may need help, we would like to hear about it, says the operations manager.

At 11.40 pm, the search operation is still in full swing. This is stated by operations manager Sidsel Svarstad at the Innlandet police district.

– The search operation is in full swing with lots of forces. It also continues tonight, says Svarstad.

However, no helicopter will be used tonight. According to the operations manager, the reason is that there are so many tents in the area that it is difficult to search from the air.
