Man (33) shot dead in Osdorp possibly victim of mistaken identity

The 33-year-old man who was shot last week on a lawn in the street Hoekenes in Osdorp, has probably been the victim of a mistake. The victim is Serdar Ay. He was driving a borrowed car that fatal night. There is still no trace of the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Serdar Ay drives a borrowed black Volkswagen Polo on the night of 19 to 20 October. At a little before 2 am he is fired upon. Local residents who heard the shots call the police. Ay is resuscitated and taken to a hospital, but dies of his injuries there.

A day after the shooting, a police spokesman reports that Ay ‘occurs in the police systems‘, but the offense is not disclosed. Now it turns out that this is probably not related to his death. The police keep all scenarios open, but strongly assume that Ay has been mistaken for someone else, possibly the one who normally drives the black Volkswagen Polo.

Witnesses wanted

Just before his death, Serdar Ay took a friend from Osdorp to Geuzenveld. The police suspect that he was already being followed and are therefore looking for people who know more about it. Several people were also seen around the crime scene. Witnesses there saw two men dressed in dark walking away via the Hoekenesgracht in the direction of the Osdorperban. The police emphasize that they may have been the perpetrators, but that they could also be witnesses and would like to get in touch with them.

A surveillance image also showed that just before, during and after the shooting, different cars drive away from that spot. The police are looking for the people who were in those cars.

More information about this case will follow this week in the investigation program Bureau 020.
