More than three years after the murder of 31-year-old Ralf Meinema from Klazienaveen, a suspect has been arrested, Police Drenthe reports on Twitter. A 28-year-old man from Klazienaveen has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in Meinema’s death.
Meinema was found dead in the trunk of his car in March 2017. The car was half hanging in a canal near his home. He turned out to have been murdered with great violence.
The case has never been resolved. Earlier, two men were arrested, but they were released due to lack of evidence. The two are still suspects in the case.

Meinema’s parents are “incredibly happy” with the news about the arrest, mother Ingrid told De Telegraaf. “We don’t know who it is. We’ve been hoping for a breakthrough all these years. Hope has kept us going.”
Meinema’s parents increased the tip money to 100,000 euros in February. In doing so, they hoped to encourage people who knew more to break their silence.
