A 23-year-old man stabbed his nine-month-pregnant girlfriend in the night from Sunday to Monday in Huy in the province of Liège. This has been confirmed by the public prosecutor of Liège after a message in La Dernière Heure. The unborn baby did not survive and the woman (20) is in mortal danger.
The young man spent the evening in a cafe. On Monday morning around 3 a.m., he returned drunk to his house on Rue des Jardins in Huy. He got into an argument with his girlfriend, who is nine months pregnant. He took a knife and hit the victim several times in the face and neck. He fled and contacted a friend to explain what had just happened. He then fled to his parents’ house, who informed the police.
The assailant was arrested a few hours later. He admitted to taking the knife from the kitchen, but said he didn’t remember what happened next.
The 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital in critical condition after she lost a lot of blood. Her baby did not survive. On Tuesday evening, the woman’s life was still in danger.
The 20-year-old was arrested on Monday for attempted murder of his girlfriend. There are no indictments about the baby, because it was not yet born and was therefore not yet recognized as a person under criminal law.
The man was already known for acts of vandalism in 2020. He will appear before the council chamber on Friday, which will decide whether he will remain in jail longer.
