Mamooka told us that this is the film I bought at the feet of the director: Appunni Shashi

Appunni Sasi is an actress who entered the film industry through drama. Appunni Shashi started her film career with Paleri Manikyam directed by Ranjith. Later, he played lead roles in films like Indian Rupee, Shutter, Queen and Puthan Paas. Appunni Sasi’s role in the Mammootty starrer Pushu was much discussed. Appunni Sasi shares her memories of her debut film Paleri Manikyam.

Appunni Sasi said that Ranjith chose all the characters for the film through auditions and most of the artists were selected from the play. Shashi said there was a week-long drama camp before the shoot. Shasi said that on the last day of that camp, Mammootty came and spoke to them. Shashi said that Mammootty said that he got a role in this film after getting hold of the director.

Shashi said that Mammootty told him that he would do all three characters and that they understood Mammootty’s passion for acting then. Shashi said that Mammootty was happy to receive awards for that film and that he still loves acting. He was speaking to Movie World Media.

Before Paleri Manikyam was killed, Sir Ranjith organized an acting camp for all the artistes. That camp was there for about a week. On the day it was over, Mamooka came to see us. He talked to everyone for a while. Mamooka said, ‘When I got to know that a film is being made with actors, I also wanted to be involved, so I grabbed the director’s leg and bought this role.’

We were told that Sir Ranjith agreed that the elder would do all three roles. Mammouk has a passion for acting and insists that every film should be done in a different way. It is still spotty even today. In every film, Pully surprises us with her performance,’ said Appunni Sasi.
