Mammootty’s Philanthropic Act: Restoring Sight to Amira, the Blind Baby of Alappuzha

Alappuzha: ‘Kazha’ is not the name of a Mammootty movie for Kunj Amira. He is the blessing of life. The grace of Malayalam’s great actor shines once again when this little genius of Alappuzha Punnapra opens his eyes to the light.

The world came to know the story of Amira, who was born blind, through the media. Amira is the third daughter of the Siddique-Kavya couple. The media published the story of the parents who were left with no other options when the doctors told them that they would need to go to Madurai to restore their sight and that they would need a huge amount of money.

Wahid, a social activist from Alappuzha, forwarded the news to Mammootty’s office. The great actor of Malayalam immediately intervened when he noticed the news. Mammootty, who suggested transferring Amira’s treatment to the vision project run by his philanthropic organization Care and Share International Foundation in collaboration with Angamaly Little Flower Hospital, took up everything necessary for further treatment.

Mammootty’s Care and Share International Foundation and Little Flower Hospital have agreed to conduct 50 eye transplant surgeries free of charge on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Eye Bank of Angamaly Little Flower Hospital. Care and Share officials immediately contacted the hospital after learning about Amira.

Assistant Director of Ophthalmology Department Fr. Varghese coordinated the necessary steps for treatment at Palat. The further treatment was under the guidance of Dr. Anita Jabbar, an expert in the Children’s Ophthalmology Department. With the success of eye transplant surgery, baby Amira entered the world of sight.

At the same time, the sight in the child’s second eye was irretrievably damaged. The doctors say that the eye infection was not properly treated due to the loss of that eye. By the time they reached Little Flower, it was too late. The child has also been fitted with a custom-made cosmetic eye ball under the guidance of the cosmetic eye department of Little Flower Hospital.

The only desire of Amira’s parents now is to see and thank their beloved Mammootty for saving their daughter’s life. Siddique said, “At least she should see Mammooka first with those eyes.”
