Tehran: Oscar winner and famous Iranian actress Tarane Alidosti (38) was arrested. After Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody on September 16, there are huge protests across Iran. Tarane Alidoshi was arrested for supporting protesters. Mahsa Amini was arrested by the police for not wearing a proper headscarf and was killed in police custody.
International news agency AFP reported, quoting local media Mizan Online News, that prominent figures including Alidosti were questioned or arrested.
In 2016, Alidosti won an Academy Award for his performance in the film ‘The Salesman’. Alidosti’s ‘Layla’s Brothers’ was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
On December 8, Alidoshi made a post on the social media platform Instagram in support of the protesters. The arrest was made in the name of this note.
Meanwhile, on Nov. 9, the actress shared a photo of herself on Instagram showing her solidarity with the strike.
Ali Dosti also held a sign reading ‘Women, Life, Freedom’, one of the main slogans of anti-government protesters. He stopped acting temporarily to support the families of those who died in the unrest.
