Small breasts – what is it?
“There are several types of hypomastia (also called micromastia or hypoplasia), underdevelopment of breast tissue in women,” says Fatima Tamaeva, chief physician of the L7 Breast Center. – Amastia is the complete absence of glandular tissue in the breast, is diagnosed very rarely and is seen more often in patients who have undergone severe surgery or injury in childhood or adolescence. It also happens that the size of one of the mammary glands is much smaller than the second.
The criterion for a “normal” breast size for women has not been established, and therefore a single definition of hypomastia is not accepted, clarifies the mammologist.
– The diagnosis of hypomastia is established if the breast volume of an adult woman is 200ml or less, says Fatima Tamaeva. – It is important to note that micromastia can only be detected after the end of the pubertal process (not earlier than 18 years).
