Women who are members of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) have access to mammography services at the PrevenIMSS Modules, where specialized nurses can prescribe the study order and schedule it.
Interviewed on the subject, specialist Arquímedes Díaz Parra explained that the mammography study serves to detect abnormalities in the breasts and provide an accurate diagnosis to the patient, since they may not present any symptoms of discomfort or cancer.

She specified that women from 40 years of age onwards are candidates for a preventive breast exam. They can go to PrevenIMSS or to their family doctor’s office, and the doctor can also order the exam.
At Social Security, the nurse from the PrevenIMSS module guides the beneficiaries and gives them the request for the study with the date and time they must appear, either at the La Loma Hospital or at the Bioscan Laboratory that we currently have as support for mammograms of women insured by IMSS.he reported.
The medical coordinator of Public Health at the IMSS in Tlaxcala also explained that after the first time of the study, the beneficiary must do it every two years to monitor her health and prevent breast cancer, which is the first cause of death in women. “If everything goes well in her check-up, it should be every two years. If the person has any symptoms, any tumor, abnormal discharge from the breasts, any depression, change in color of the skin, the mammary gland and the nipple, she should go to her family doctor, who will indicate the mammography study urgently,” he explained.

The specialist added that if necessary, the patient can be transferred to the specialist service to complete the follow-up of her diagnosis found in the mammogram.

The health sector recommends that women perform self-examinations starting at age 20, every month and seven days after their menstrual period.
Clinical examination by a health professional should be carried out starting at age 25 and then every year. Screening mammography is carried out starting at age 40, every two years, and from age 50 to 65, the study should be carried out every year.
