Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has reiterated that she is not aware of the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra after declaring that she will not be with the Congress in Bengal during the Lok Sabha elections. According to party sources, Mamata Banerjee has requested senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh to participate in the yatra through the media, but she has expressed no interest. Mamata Banerjee also stated that she is not thinking of any alliance in Bengal.
Trinamool Congress denied reports that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge visited Mamata on Friday. Mamata Banerjee had an accident on her way back from Burdwan. Party sources informed that they are resting after this. There are also reports that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi sent messages inquiring about Mamata’s well-being.
The Trinamool Congress has announced that it will contest alone in all 42 constituencies after not being able to reach an agreement with the Congress regarding the division of seats in the ‘India’ front. Mamata also said that she will take a decision on cooperation at the national level only after the elections.
The Congress had rejected Trinamool Congress’s offer to give 2 seats in Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections. The crisis in the seat sharing talks on the ‘India’ front worsened when the Congress wanted at least 6 seats and Trinamool also stated that the Congress did not have the kelp to win that much. Trinamool’s position that it will give 2 seats which is currently held by Congress was stonewalled. PCC President Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary had stated that Trinamool’s generosity is not required to contest these seats.
