Mama Mia: The show that combines humor and breast cancer comes to Hernando

On October 6, within the framework of the National Peanut Festival and the breast cancer awareness campaign organized by LALCEC Hernando, the play will be presented.

Alejandra Bustamente and Mari Morichetti, members of LALCEC Hernando, shared details about the arrival of the work, which will be a one-woman show where Mariana Cabrol humorously narrates the experiences and challenges she faced during her fight against breast cancer. «It is a different way of doing prevention»explained Morichetti, who added that the reviews the work has received in other cities are excellent.

The power of humor to face cancer:

Mariana Cabrol, actress and protagonist of the play, has experienced firsthand the battle against cancer and found in theater a way to heal and make her experience visible.

The work, described by Bustamente as «a way to give a new expectation to the patient»offers the public a different view on cancer. “The word cancer generates fear, but approaching it from another perspective, with someone who has been through it and found the positive side, is a way of showing that it is possible from another place”he stated.

In addition to humor, the show allows a direct connection with the audience. Cabrol opens a space to interact with the public, creating an intimate and meaningful environment. «I think that is going to generate a very good atmosphere. There are people who have not suffered from cancer, but who have experienced it through a family member. Many times the work helps to understand what those people never expressed.Alejandra added.

Start of the pink month and the prevention campaign:

«This year we could not do the usual raffle due to economic reasons, but the collaboration of the Culture Directorate and the sponsors has been essential to be able to bring this show»Mari explained. In addition, he mentioned that, despite the economic difficulties, LALCEC has managed to continue offering its prevention services. «This year we performed 50 free mammograms between August and October. Although the mammogram will not be available as in other years, we have received donations and support from the hospital to meet the demand.

The importance of prevention and medical follow-up:

During the month of September, LALCEC also carried out its uterine cancer prevention campaign, offering free Papanicolaou (PAP) tests. «We had an impressive demand, all the places were filled»said Morichetti, who emphasized the importance of withdrawing study results. «We cannot leave a mammogram or a PAP without removing. “If we solve it right away, it can also be treated right away.”he stated, highlighting that many people do not collect the results due to fear of the diagnosis.

A call to the medical community:

They mentioned the recent departure of one of the volunteer doctors from the LALCEC team and called on health professionals who wish to collaborate. “We are looking for more medical professionals who can collaborate voluntarily. Any gynecologist or doctor who is interested will be more than welcome,” they concluded.
