Mama Chris Rock about Oscar incident: “No apologies received yet” | showbiz

CelebritiesWhen Will Smith (53) stormed onto the stage of the Oscars at the end of May and gave presenter Chris Rock (57) a blow, it caused a shock wave worldwide. Also with Rosalie (77), Rock’s mother.

Just recap. Chris Rock was awarded the prize for ‘best documentary’ at the Oscars. But during his speech, he joked about the bald head of Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia. Then her husband, Will Smith, walked on stage and slapped Rock. Once back in place, he yelled, “Never put my wife’s name in your damn mouth again!”

A moment that also caused confusion for Rosalie Rock, Chris’ mother. In her first interview since the incident, she admits that at first she thought the blow was staged. But when Smith started yelling “obscenities” at her son, she realized there was more to it. “When Will hit Chris, he hit us all,” Rosalie says now, in an interview with local TV station WIS-TV. “But actually he hit me. When you hurt my child, you hurt me too.” What she wanted to say to Smith, she was asked. “I have no idea what to say other than, ‘What the hell were you thinking? Because you hit, but so much could have happened. Chris could have stepped back and fell. They really should have handcuffed you. You didn’t think. You reacted when your wife looked at you sideways. And you gave her the time of her life, because she was doubled over with laughter when it happened.”

She doesn’t think it’s necessarily a good punishment that Smith is no longer allowed to go to the Oscars for ten years. “What does that mean? You don’t go every year anyway.” She does hope for a personal apology from the Oscar winner. “I am very sorry that he never apologised. His team had written a piece saying “I apologize to Chris Rock.” But such an apology must be personal. You get in touch.” The woman adds that her son is doing well, “although he is still processing what happened.”
