Malú and Albert Rivera began their love relationship in 2018, a few months after the singer broke up with presenter Gonzalo Miró. The former politician, for his part, had been dating psychologist Mariona Saperas for 20 years, with whom he had his first daughter: Daniela Rivera Saperas.
The singer and the former leader of Ciudadanos met at a concert in Barcelona several years before they started their relationship, when they both had a partner. After the show, a mutual acquaintance introduced them to each other in a meeting that would mark the beginning of their friendship. Once they were both single, they began their romantic relationship.
The two public faces kept their relationship as discreet as possible. On June 6, 2020, Lucía, the singer’s first daughter and the former politician’s second, was born. After the birth of the little girl, Malú and Albert Rivera appeared together again at the exit of the HM Puerta del Sur Hospital after receiving medical discharge.

His daughter would mark a before and after in his relationship
In July 2023, Malú confirmed her breakup with Albert Rivera. “I am not and will not be the first or the last person to break up. Sometimes, you believe in something and you fight for it with all your might. But sometimes it doesn’t happen. And it’s not anyone’s fault; it’s not bad or good, it just happens. So you have to try to understand it and deal with it in the best way possible,” she said in an interview with Elle.
In December of that same year, the singer said that the arrival of her daughter Lucía into the world meant a progressive break in her personal relationship with the former politician. “I think that the arrival of a child multiplies what was in the couple seen as the good and the bad. I also think that it separates a lot if the two people are not in the same place. It creates a world,” explained Malú, as reported by Europa Press.
Albert Rivera, in December, would add his version of what happened. “Life is made up of stages, it has been a wonderful relationship and you have to take the good from all the stages,” he said, confirming that he has fond memories of his almost five-year relationship with Malú.
In September 2023, the Madrid-born artist released a new song titled Ausente, composed by Pablo Alborán. In it, Malú speaks openly about her breakup with Albert Rivera: “You’re a stranger who walks through my house / I don’t recognize you, I don’t understand what’s wrong with you,” she sings.
“It was me who endured / The echo of my name everywhere,” he says, referring to the media attention. “Where do I move to / To start over / No matter what happens / She comes first,” he adds, mentioning that his daughter Lucía is the top priority.

In March 2024, Malú spoke a few brief words about her current relationship with Albert Rivera, to whom she will be forever linked through their daughter.
Europa Press asked the artist how she got on with Albert Rivera after their separation, to which she replied that she was “very well.” According to the news agency, the Madrid native also said that it was very easy to reconcile raising her daughter with the former politician. “I couldn’t be happier,” she added.
Albert Rivera, for his part, began another romantic relationship with influencer and designer Carla Cotterli in 2023, the same year he broke up with the artist.
So, judging by Malú and Albert Rivera’s public words, it seems that both of them have fond memories of their relationship, even though it didn’t work out. Even so, they have managed to rebuild their relationship as separated parents in order to raise Lucía in the best way possible.
