Malmö have switched up in the battle for the bottom and took their third straight victory on Thursday after a 5-1 crush against table jumbo Oskarshamn. And there was no talk of it. The loss was Oskarshamn’s fifth in a row.
– Difficult to analyze. Puck possession and game possession, it’s an even match. However, we make quite a few big mistakes and it shows where we are mentally. We don’t really believe in our hockey sense, says Oskarshamn’s coach Martin Filander.
– It sits mentally. We are a little too blunt, and make gross mistakes.
Fredrik Händemark’s 1-0 goal for Malmö in the first period was the start of a goal feast. The Malmö captain made sure in the second period to extend the lead to 2–0 before Anton Wahlberg made it 3–0 in the third period.
Oskarshamn grabbed a small straw with a reduction to 3–1 by Viktor Lodin, but a recovery was never close.
Instead, Adam Ollas sent Mattsson in 4–1 before Carl Persson set the final score at 5–1.
– I think we play a good away game. They are difficult to face. You never know where the matches will go. We were stable over 60 minutes, says Malmö’s assistant coach Mathias Tjärnqvist.
Became the first choice: “Have taken the chance”
The victory was the third in a row for Malmö. Adam Werner has kept the goal in the last four games. He has become a winner.
– The important thing is that we get points now. That’s where we are, it makes a little difference how it looks. We must have those three points and we have managed to do that recently, so we are trying to continue on this, says Adam Werner.
At the same time, the goalkeeper does not boast that it feels good with an upward trend.
– I think I played well all season really and had one or two games that dipped a little too much. Otherwise, I think it has been pretty stable right through.
Malmö coach Mathias Tjärnqvist praises his goalkeeper.
– It is up to him to show that he wants to stand, and he has taken the chance in a good way. [Daniel] Marmenlind is a heel, but for the moment Werner has taken a position, says Tjärnqvist.
About to become a father: “Absolutely wonderful”
But it’s not just in hockey that there are fun times for Adam Werner. At the beginning of March, he will become a father for the first time.
– It feels absolutely wonderful and I get a lot of energy from it. It’s easier to brush off the hard days when the results don’t add up. I don’t think as much about hockey now as I did before in a positive way. It feels great fun.
Have you purchased everything?
– I don’t know if you have everything first. But we survive the start in any case, says Adam Werner with a smile.
With a child on the way, there is a risk that Werner will miss games.
– We can take it then. It is clear that it is one thing that you do not want to miss, the first child and all that it means to be there to support. So we have to take it the day it is and we take it a little week by week, says Adam Werner.
