Sergio Peña was in Malmö district court on Wednesday, where he was charged with aggravated drunken driving and illegal driving. The prosecutor asked for a prison sentence, while the player’s lawyer wants the penalty to be a suspended sentence and 50 hours of community service.

Regardless of the outcome, the 27-year-old will be able to play for Malmö FF until the verdict comes on June 14.

– Until then, I really have no comment, but we will wait for them until we have the facts. After that, we will comment on where we are, says the club’s CEO Niclas Carlnén.

In other words, he plays on until the verdict?
– Yes, this doesn’t change anything. We must have that information in order to do something in that case.

How have you perceived Sergio in the past month?
– Just as he said before, he was remorseful about what had happened. But after that he has been very professional in his work.

Sergio Peña is listed for ten appearances in this year’s Allsvenska.
