Then Malmö FF will win the CL.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has predicted the men’s Champions League champions up to and including the year 2103. Daily Mail reports that Manchester City will become the top English team in the period with five titles, while Arsenal will have to wait their turn.
That Real Madrid is predicted to win the most titles (ten) may not raise too many eyebrows. Nor that FC Barcelona will win this year, even if they are far from odds favourites.
The CL format is redone
But the fact that Sporting will win in 2035 or that Wolverhampton will take home the trophy seven years later stands out much more.
Most remarkable in the AI generation is probably still, Swedish focus notwithstanding, that Malmö FF is expected to win CL 2056. Malmö reached the final of the European Cup in 1978/79 but fell to Nottingham Forest. The last time Malmö reached the group stage of the tournament was in autumn 2021.
In the autumn, the Champions League’s format will be changed. Instead of eight four-team groups, the number of teams will be increased to 36 and all are in one and the same series, where each team plays eight games.
