Malicious Translation Incident in Ubuntu Desktop Installer UI: Updates and Removals

Autor: Depositphotos

Shortly after yesterday’s release, hate speech from a malicious contributor was discovered in a set of translations of the Ubuntu Desktop installer UI, and the developers immediately had the images removed from the download servers.

Translations are not part of the Ubuntu archive, and the incident appears to only affect translations provided through a third-party translation tool that is used for some applications. These translations have been removed and an updated ISO will be available for download once we replace the offending material, the incident notification.

According to the developers, the problem only concerns the translations themselves and there is no reason to believe that the software in Ubuntu was somehow compromised. If you have already upgraded to Ubuntu Desktop 23.10 from a previous release, this incident should not concern you.
