The youth of Immendorf kept the custom of putting up the maypole in the cadastral community of Wullersdorf. The local crowd was there and the young people were happy with the interest. But the tree was not supposed to stand for long: it was taken down on the night of May 1, as the youth said on their Facebook page.
“The residents heard a dull bang at 2:07 a.m.,” said Alexander Thürr, chairman of the Immendorf youth group. The maypole was cut down by two perpetrators and fell on the playground. The young girls and boys were still out in town and managed to film the carnage.
The youth then issued an ultimatum on Facebook: If the perpetrators turn themselves in within 24 hours, the images will not be forwarded to the authorities.
“A real maypole guard is still unusual for us,” said the youth chairman. Because the tradition of circumcision is more common in other federal states. “For us, this is pure malice or stupidity,” said Thürr angrily. Just last year, the Wullersdorf fire department suffered the same thing: unknown people were saving, as reported, the maypole in front of the Wullersdorf fire station. The tree remained on the state road and the FF associates had to move out to remove it from the road.
In any case, the members of the Immendorf Youth cut the tree a few meters and planted it back. The makers have not come forward yet.
