A man was arrested for begging on the street. After being questioned, he admitted that he only needed a few hours to beg people for mercy but made an unexpected profit. It is said that in a day he can pocket more than IDR 1 million and even owns an expensive car. The story also angered the public.
The story of the beggar from Malaysia was revealed on Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) Facebook. It was reported that the man, whose identity was not revealed, was often seen begging at the Sri Jaya market, Maran, Pahang District. Initially the officers just wanted to stop the action before learning the shocking facts.
In the viral photo, the man dressed in a robe and cap is seen carrying a bag to hold money. When he was first approached, he did not respond to the officers because he was thought to be deaf or mute. But after further interrogation, he appeared healthy.
Then the officers started asking about his identity. The beggar also admitted that he had left his KTP in the car. When he was followed to pick it up, it turned out that the man was driving a Proton X70 Premium worth IDR 400 million which was said to be privately owned.
It didn’t stop there, the officers were shocked again when they learned about the beggar’s background. It turns out he wasn’t begging because he wasn’t working.
Reported by the Bernama agency, the man, who has a disability, is known to be a supervisor at a bus company. He is said to usually receive a salary of RM 2,000 (Rp. 6.6 million) from the company and RM 450 (Rp. 1.4 million) from the government per month. Since then, his assistance has been withdrawn.
