Kuala Lumpur –
Authority Malaysia will not extend the determination of the national emergency period related to the pandemic corona virus (COVID-19) which was supposed to end on August 1. The country has imposed a Corona state of emergency for months.
As reported Reuters, Monday (26/7/2021), Malaysia has been under emergency rule since last January, with the Prime Minister (PM) Muhyiddin Yassin argued that the determination was necessary to control the spread of the Corona virus.
But his critics denounced the move and accused PM Muhyiddin of trying to hold on to power amid a slim majority in parliament.
Even though there was an emergency and lockdown strict, the Corona pandemic in Malaysia has actually gotten worse which has sparked public anger.
On Sunday (25/7) local time, Malaysia again set a record spike in Corona cases in its territory. The total number of Corona cases in the country has now surpassed the 1 million mark. The rate of transmission per capita in this country is also recorded as the highest in the region.
Malaysian Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan said the government would not ask the King of Malaysia or Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah to extend the emergency. This was conveyed by Takiyuddin in front of parliament, which held a special meeting in the middle of the recession earlier this week.
Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy in which the King of Malaysia has a ceremonial role, carrying out his duties on the advice of the PM and his cabinet. But the King of Malaysia also has the power to decide if a state of emergency should be declared.
