BOLASPORT.COM – Women’s singles Indonesia, Gregoria Mariska Tunjungsurprise by defeating the first seed, Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) in the first round Malaysia Open 2022.
Gregoria Mariska Tunjung perform brilliantly against Akane Yamaguchi at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (28/6/2022).
He managed to overcome the pressure and beat Yamaguchi in two straight games with a twin score of 21-14, 21-14.
The achievement obtained by Gregoria then also broke the record of eight consecutive defeats he had ever obtained when he met Yamaguchi.
Although admitting that the opponent did not play optimally, Gregoria still did not expect to be able to beat him.
“Thank God we played loose today, but maybe there was a slight advantage because the opponents in the first game were not able to maximize,” said Gregoria, quoted by BolaSport.com from PBSI.
“So it can’t give me pressure. He finally couldn’t improve his game. Then with the victory I won in the first game, in the second game I was more confident.”
“I also didn’t expect Akane to play below her level. In the last few tournaments I’ve seen that even though she doesn’t win, she always loses three games.”
