KUALA LUMPUR – Indonesian women’s singles, Gregoria Mariska Tunjungqualify for the semifinals Malaysia Masters 2022. She got the semifinal ticket after defeating the Japanese women’s singles, Akane Yamaguchi.
Competing at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Friday (8/7/2022), afternoon WIB, Gregoria performed well against Yamaguchi. He also came out victorious with a score of 25-23, 12-21, and 10-21.
The course of the match
Gregoria started the game pretty well. The attack from the Wonogiri-born player made it difficult for Yamaguchi in the early stages of the match.
Gregoria is able to appear consistent. He took the lead over Yamaguchi at the interval with a score of 11-6 in five minutes.
However, the world number one player was slowly able to catch up and equalized to 17-17. The match was fierce at these critical points.
Yamaguchi had reached game points first, but Gregoria was not discouraged and equalized at 20-20. After chasing each other, Gregoria ended the Japanese player’s resistance in the first game with a score of 25-23.
In the second game, Gregoria appeared to be pressured by Yamaguchi from the start. He was unable to withstand attacks from the world number one player so he had to fall behind at the interval with a score of 9-11.
After the interval, Gregoria tried to get up. However, Yamaguchi’s attack was repelled by Yamaguchi. As a result, Gregoria also lost in the second game with a score of 15-21.
In the third game, Gregoria started very well. He had scored six consecutive points before finally winning over Yamaguchi at the interval with a score of 11-5.
After the interval, Gregoria became more confident in attacking the Yamaguchi defense. He was able to widen his lead to 16-9.
As a result, the world number 31 closed the third game with a 21-10 victory. This result made him step into the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters 2022.
