Malaysian national team failed to get on the podium in the event King’s Cup 2022 in Thailand, after three penalties, no one managed to break through the door of Tajikistan.

Malaysia once again had to take penalty kicks to determine the outcome in the 2022 Kings Cup final. Malaysia previously also won over Thailand through a series of 12 penalty kicks.

The duel between Tajikistan and Malaysia in the 90th minute ended goalless. So that the winner is to be determined through the 11-meter football drama.

Tajikistan had a chance to kick first. Akhtam Nazarov failed to insert the ball into Malaysia’s goal. Nazarov’s crop-style shot was too weak for the keeper to recover in the center after a fall.

Komron Tursunov as Tajikistan’s third kicker scored again, so Malaysia were 0-2 behind. Safawi Rasid who has advanced as Malaysia’s third executioner has a difficult task. A powerful left foot from Safawi saw only the ball hit the crossbar and bounce off.


Tajikistan sealed the victory thanks to a goal from Rustam Soirov who became the fourth kicker. The score was 3-0, Tajikistan for the first time took home the Kings Cup trophy.

While the third place goes to Thailand who won 2-1 over Trinidad and Tobago.
