Malaysia Looses Prohibition of Entry for Citizens

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah stated, Malaysia has relaxed entry restrictions for WNI and 22 other foreign nationals on September 10.

This was conveyed by Faizasyah in a virtual press conference held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday (17/9/2020).

“As update, September 10, Malaysia has implemented a relaxation of Malaysia’s no entry policy against WNA from 23 countries, including Indonesia, “said Faizasyah.

He said that currently countries in the world were imposing entry bans for a number of foreigners amid the increasing transmission of Covid-19.

The same thing is done by Indonesia through the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 11 of 2020 which prohibits foreigners from entering or transiting in Indonesian territory.

However, Indonesia made an exception for a number of countries that had signed cooperation agreements on essential business travel corridors during the pandemic.

These countries are the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and the People’s Republic of China.

“We are currently discussing a similar agreement with Singapore. The government is calling on Indonesian citizens to menuda travel abroad unless it is urgent,” he said.

Previously, Faizasyah confirmed that there was a ban on Indonesian citizens from entering Malaysia.

“The Malaysian government has banned holders long term pass from the Philippines, Indonesia and India to enter Malaysian territory, “Faizasyah told Kompas.com, Thursday (3/9/2020).
