Malaysia recorded 17,045 new COVID-19 cases Sunday (25/7/2021), setting a new record three days in a row as the country surpassed one million cumulative COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
After three consecutive days of daily infection numbers above 15 thousand, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia touched 1,013,438 people.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 8,500 followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,045) and Kedah (1,216).
“I suspect infection varian Delta This is already in the community and this is very worrying,” said Izani Husin, chairman of the state Housing and Health Committee at a press conference. Malaysia’s COVID-19 numbers continue to soar, despite entering the third month of restrictions on movement that began in May. The infection has been triggered by the variant. This delta led the Malaysian government to impose stricter restrictions in June.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said 92 people had died from COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the death toll from coronavirus to 7,994.
Meanwhile, 970 COVID-19 patients are in critical care with 501 needing to be intubated.
